Sun bears are the smallest bear species in the world, and are also known as the honey bear. Sun bears are so called because of the orange crescent shape on their chests which is said the resemble the rising sun. They are found throughout South-East Asia, and the rescued Sun bears at our Cambodia sanctuary are the largest collection of Sun bears in the world, numbering around 100.
Sun bears are targeted by poachers for their skin, paws and gallbladders for use in traditional medicine. The illegal hunting of bears combined with widespread habitat loss, means that Sun bears are very much in need of our help.
