We’re fighting for a world where bears are no longer exploited for profit, traded as commodities, or taken from the wild. A world where they are safe in our care today, and protected in the forests they belong to.

Across our sanctuaries in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, we provide hundreds of rescued bears the safe home they need to recover. This is lifelong care that requires significant resources, every single day.

As more bears are rescued from bear bile farms and the illegal wildlife trade, demand continues to grow. We are expanding our sanctuaries and developing new programmes to help fund this work — but we can’t do it without you.

Your support helps us care for rescued bears today, and prepare for those still to come.

As a registered charity under the Australian Charities & Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), and under the Chairty Commission for England and Wales, we are committed to transparency and accountability.

  • Healthy diets

Many rescued bears arrive malnourished after years without a natural diet. We provide a vet-developed mix of fresh vegetables, fruit, pulses, and more, to help them recover.

An adult bear can eat up to 42kg each week — that's a lot of veggies over a lifetime!

  • Enrichment

Bears are highly intelligent animals. We provide twice-daily enrichment that encourages their natural behaviours like foraging and climbing.

From puzzle feeders to treat balls, new smells and more, enrichment keeps them active.

  • Space to roam

We provide large forested habitats with pools for swimming in, platforms and trees to climb and nest, and custom-built dens for well-deserved naps.

There's always work to be done to repair and expand, to provide sanctuary to more bears in need.

  • Specialised care

Many rescued bears arrive needing urgent, ongoing medical care and rehabilitation. From cubs needing hand-raising, to bears with disease, snare-injuries, or psychological trauma, our team work to give each bear the best recovery.

  • Protecting wild bears

We’re working to protect wild bears through research, field study, and community programmes.

By combining science with on-the-ground conservation, we can secure their future in the wild.

  • Ending exploitation

We’re tackling wildlife crime at every level – supporting law enforcement, enabling rapid rescues, and helping stop illegal trades that put bears at risk. We also continue our fight to end the horrific practice of bear bile farming.

Your support matters

Free the bears rescues more threatened bears than any other organisation worldwide.

We continue to rescue more bears every year, and the need for long-term care continues to grow.

It's only thanks to the kindness of our donors that we can continue to say yes every time there is a bear in need, and be ready for those still waiting.

Help us rescue bears from bile farms and the illegal wildlife trade, care for them for life, and protect those still in the wild.
