Our mission
Our Vision
A world where bears are valued as an integral part of the natural environment and are no longer exploited or abused.
Our Mission
Protecting threatened bears in Asia
Our values shape how we deliver lasting impact for bears:
-
Authentic
We operate with honesty, transparency, and respect, building lasting trust with our partners, communities, and each other. As responsible custodians, we are dedicated to safeguarding the long-term welfare of bears and the protection of wildlife.
-
Bold
We are a voice for the voiceless, raising awareness and driving meaningful change to end exploitation of bears. Taking courage from what we’ve already achieved, we maintain an unwavering belief in our ability to create a better future for all.
-
Committed
We lead by example, showing what’s possible through our actions. We believe that thoughtful actions can create lasting change for animal welfare and conservation. We stand firm through every challenge, acting with compassion towards people and animals.
OUR IMPACT
For over three decades, Free the Bears has been a beacon of hope for bears across Asia.
Since our founding, Free the Bears has supported the rescue and care of more than 1,000 bears across the region and played a leading role in ending the exploitation of dancing bears in India, an extraordinary achievement given its centuries-long tradition, and closing bile farms in Vietnam
Today, we rescue more threatened bears than any other organisation worldwide and operate the largest bear sanctuary network in Southeast Asia, positioning Free the Bears as a leader in bear welfare, conservation and research.

The Free the Bears story
The story continues
While much has been achieved, the work is far from finished. Illegal wildlife trade, habitat loss and continued demand for bear products still threaten bears across Asia.
Free the Bears remains committed to protecting bears today while ensuring their survival in the wild for generations to come.
Every rescue, every protected habitat and every conservation breakthrough is made possible by people who care about the future of bears.
Your support enables bear rescues, lifelong care and the protection of wild populations across Asia.
Help us continue this important work, to protect the next generation of bears.
