Authorities in Laos confiscated two male moon bear cubs from wildlife traders trying to sell the cubs to tourists.

A Free the Bears rescue team hit the road immediately, bringing them back to the safety of Luang Prabang Wildlife Sanctuary's cub nursery.

They are incredibly young – only a few months old, and both weighing less than 3 kilograms when they arrived.

At this age, bear cubs should still be safe with their mother.

The heartbreaking reality is their mum was almost certainly killed so these cubs could be illegally taken from the wild and sold on the black market.

Rescuing cubs this young is just the start. They are very vulnerable and need round-the-clock care now.

Please donate if you can. Every contribution makes a big difference to our small charity.

These cubs, now named Jose and Fitz, are baby boys, both weighing less than 3 kilograms when they arrived!

They're growing steadily, but need constant care.

They need:

  • Feeding every few hours
  • Milk formula and cub supplies
  • Warmth and monitoring day and night
  • Specialist veterinary care
  • Dedicated bear carers with cub-raising experience

These two will likely need sanctuary protection and care for the rest of their life, which could be 30 years or more.

Please donate if you can, every contribution no matter how small helps us to care for this little pair.
