Hip Hip Hooray - A Week to Celebrate

Happy Birthday Mary Hutton!

Happy birthday to our incredibly fearless and kind-hearted founder Mary Hutton. This month marks 25 years since Mary began her first petition to help bears. Almost 1,000 bears have been rescued and the lives of countless people around the globe have been positively impacted by Mary's efforts. Mary celebrated her 80th in Perth on August 11th, surrounded by family and friends.
“I was moved to tears on my birthday by all of the lovely messages and wishes from everyone in the Free the Bears family. We've achieved so much together over the past 25 years - it wouldn't have been possible without the support, love and help you've all given.  Love and bear hugs, Mary".

SEND A GIFT THAT IS SURE TO MAKE MARY (AND A BEAR) SMILE

On August 16 at a ceremony held in San Diego, Free the Bears CEO Matt Hunt was awarded the "Conservation in Action" Conservation Medal  by San Diego Zoo Global. Since 1966, the Conservation Medal awards have recognized recipients who have provided important contributions toward the conservation and recovery of endangered species. Previous recipients include H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh and Sir David Attenborough.  Congratulations Matt.

Our new multi-species Luang Prabang Wildlife Sanctuary has been busy with rescues, including 2 young female Assam macaques (who'd been tied by the neck with wire), a pygmy slow loris and a crested serpent eagle. We're overjoyed to have the opportunity to help other species however this creates a need for additional facilities. For many of the smaller species we can build enclosures quite quickly, for a modest cost. Help us out by becoming a monthly donor. Building a base of monthly donors is vital to our operations. Even a small monthly donation (e.g. AUD$10-$20) makes a huge difference. Thank you & bear hugs.

Our 2019 wall calendar is now available. Being greeted by one of our beautiful rescued animals each day is sure to bring a smile to your face. Our 2019 calendar makes a great gift and your purchase will help us care for rescued wildlife. Order yours today.

There are still places available on the trip of a lifetime to help contribute to our Vietnam and Laos sanctuaries. The 13 day trip (Feb 25 - Mar 9, 2019) culminates in the official opening of our Luang Prabang Wildlife Sanctuary. World Expeditions is a leader in responsible travel and the trip price includes a donation to Free the Bears.
