Volunteer in Cambodia

Free the Bears Cambodia is located within Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre. This is an amazing & unique opportunity to join our experienced team and look after more than 120 sun & moon bears rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.

With stays ranging from 4 days to 8 weeks, your time and financial contribution will help improve and enrich the lives of our rescued bears as well as support our efforts to rescue more bears in need.

 

Activities include:

  • Food preparation & distribution

  • Providing sensory enrichment

  • Assisting keepers in cleaning of forest enclosures and bear dens

  • Creating/repairing bear hammocks.

  • General maintenance & improvement to the center i.e. painting, sanding, repairs & gardening

Get behind the scenes of our world class sanctuary and help make a difference to the lives of rescued bears.

 

Things to note:

  • We have a minimum volunteer age of 18 (exceptions considered for students or those with experience in wildlife/conservation)

  • You will undertake physical activities in a tropical climate - a good level of health is required

  • Peak season in Cambodia is from November to March - be sure to book early

  • You will work closely with the bears however for your safety and their welfare there will be no direct contact 

  • Free the Bears is located within the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre which houses many exotic species, all of which you’ll see during your stay

  • No experience in wild animal care is required - just be willing and enthusiastic with a strong interest in conservation and wildlife

  • A fee is charged to covers costs and contribute to the welfare of the bears

Inclusions:

  • Sunday pick up from Phnom Penh

  • Accommodation and transfers while volunteering

  • Daily breakfast, dinner Sunday to Thursday

  • Comprehensive training, supervision & support by experienced Free the Bears staff

RESEARCH PROGRAM: Free the Bears research program offers internships for university students who wish to undertake a project from our research prospectus (available upon enquiry), with durations from 4 to 12 weeks. Please be sure when enquiring to include your CV and mention any previous experience with animals/wildlife as well as any related study undertaken or previous work experience.
